A more focused IELTS Academic Writing routine
Turn writing practice into a repeatable process: understand, plan, write and review.
Understand the two tasks Academic Writing Task 1 asks you to describe visual information. Task 2 asks you to respond to a viewpoint, argument or problem. Practise both formats using official sample materials.
Plan before writing For visual information, identify the overall pattern before selecting supporting details. For an essay, decide what the question asks and what position your answer will develop. Give every paragraph a clear purpose.
Review one layer at a time First check whether you answered the question. Then check paragraph order and whether examples support your ideas. Finally, review sentence structure, spelling and repeated words. This makes feedback easier to act on than trying to fix everything at once.
Keep a revision notebook Save an original paragraph and a revised version together. Explain why each change helps the reader. Over time, this shows patterns in your writing and helps you choose the next practice task. These are study suggestions, not a promise of a particular band score.
